Get ready for the most spectacular vintage festival of the year. This iconic weekend is brimming with nostalgia, laughter, and a whole lot of fun for the entire family. Experience dazzling entertainment that will transport you back to the vibrant 1940s, and marvel at classic cars and military vehicles that showcase the era’s remarkable history
These pictures were all taken by Peter when he attended this event a few years ago. Of all the events about war years, I have attended, this one is by far the best. Literally, there are loads of vintage vehicles of every description taking part as well as hundreds of re-enactors walking around the dockyard. The dockyard will stage various events during the day when sirens will sound and ARP Wardens will appear and ask you to take shelter as a bombing raid is imminent. You can experience life in an air raid shelter and listen to the bombs dropping with some very close. The big guns aboard HMS Cavalier will be fired but you will be warned in advance as the are very loud. Everything in the Dockyard will be open or running, including the Dockyard railway. It’s a whole load of fun and a chance to see classic military vehicles and wartime vehicles from the 1940’s as well as ambulances, fire engines and other vehicles from the era.
