Luxury Pullman Dining in Genuine Pullman Carriages

Step back into the golden age of rail travel and enjoy an unforgettable dining experience aboard the Wealden Pullman Dining service. Travel in beautifully restored Pullman cars, purpose-built as first-class dining carriages, where timeless elegance meets attentive service. Rich wood panelling, classic upholstery, and immaculate table settings recreate the luxury once enjoyed by Britain’s most discerning railway passengers.

As our coach pulls into Northiam Station at 12.30pm, the Pullman train will be waiting for us. As you reach the platform, Pulman Carriage Company uniformed staff will greet you with an aperitif before helping you to your own reserved table with personalised named place cards and Pullman Menu. From this moment onwards the Pullman Carriage Company staff will attend to your every need and silver serve your meal, just as they would have done back in the 1920s & 30s. Remember, you have staff at home to attend to your every need but on the railway it was the Pullman Carriage Company staff that continued the personal service you are use to. (You will be seated at tables of 4 or 2 plus only 1 table of 3. Parties of 2 or 4 are best as otherwise you will be seated with other people).

As the historic steam train glides through the rolling countryside of the Kent & East Sussex Railway, you’ll be served a freshly prepared hot meal at your table, all while relaxing in the refined comfort of a genuine Pullman carriage. The Wealden Pullman forms the perfect venue to celebrate a special occasion or for a more intimate dining experience. Your meal is carefully prepared onboard and served by authentically attired Pullman Attendants whilst the train gently winds its way along the Rother Valley.

The Pullman Dining carriages include historic Pullman Cars dating from the 1920’s and a 1930’s First Class carriage built for the Southampton Ocean Liner traffic. Each perfectly captures the atmosphere and style for which travel by Pullman train became renowned, maintaining the finest traditions of the Pullman Car Company for your enjoyment and as a reminder of a more elegant age. The Wealden Pullman is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers, who take great pride in recreating levels of service seldom enjoyed in today’s busy world. Enjoy a complimentary aperitif whilst you admire the carefully restored steam locomotive or explore the intricate marquetry panelling in Pullman Car ‘Barbara’ & ‘Theodora’. Take your seat and savour the moment as the train gently departs on its relaxing journey…….An experience to savour — where the journey is just as special as the destination.

The Itinerary is as follows:-

• In 1920s Pullman style you will be greeted with an aperitif before the Pullman Staff escort you to your seat on our own chartered train at 12.30pm and taking your reserved seat.
• During the journey your hot meal will be prepared on board and will be silver-served by Pullman attendants dressed in the period uniform of the Pullman Car Company.
• At the end of the line, a pause allows time to visit the steam locomotive, chat with its crew and perhaps take a photograph or two. Don’t forget to pass by the kitchen carriage, where you can observe and chat to the chefs hard at work.
• As the train returns, the dessert trolly offers an enticing range of desserts, all of which are made in the kitchen onboard the train. Tea/Coffee is served as the train is hauled up one of the steepest gradients in southern England.

DRESS CODE: Operated by the train company. Men to wear a tie and PLEASE! NO jeans, t.shirts or trainers.
